About me
My professional experience began in 1995 in New York where I did print design & production for clients including Sony Music, BMG Music and Barnes & Noble. I learned and thrived on typesetting, proofreading, editing, writing and page production for 4C print. I loved those days. In 1998 I was a print-production artist for the BMG Music Club (“12 CDs for $1″ & now-closed). At that time CD sales were still brisk, so BMG was still profitable. Small, cheap solid-state memory was still a thing of the future so there weren’t many personal mp3 players around. Very few people outside of Cupertino had ever heard of an iPod and cell-phones didn’t play music. CD players that would play mp3s were popular, as was the mini-disc format (I think I still have a couple of mini-discs around somewhere – right next to a bunch of zip discs.
So in 1998/1999, business was good at BMG and they had one of the most-trafficked e-commerce sites on the web. I was in the right place at the right time – they needed help with their growing site, and I had just enough experience to warrant a change of job description. It was a great time to be at BMG doing web design and development – but within a couple of years the music business began to feel the impact of the digital content revolution and music-sharing services like Napster and Limewire undermined the profitability of CDs. Budget cuts and layoffs began to seep into the company’s collective unconscious and with the dot-com bubble still expanding, the timing seemed right to pursue my goal of self-employment.
Ten plus years later, I’ve worked on hundreds of projects large and small. I’ve written code and/or designed creative for Fortune 100′s including IBM, Intel, Ford, CBS, Sony and Mastercard as well as for non-profits such as the Beginning with Children Foundation, a charter school in New York City. I’ve worked on projects for Financial industries clients including Fidelity Investments, Gartmore Funds, Evergreen Investments, TIAA-CREF and more as well as Automotive clients Ford and Volvo. I’ve also worked extensively with Fashion and Lifestyle magazine clients such as Vogue, Glamour, Details, Wired, Golf Digest, Lucky, The New Yorker and more.
